This time of year, we have fashion weeks coming in going in every big city. Exciting new styles for the upcoming seasons can be fun to try, but it is important to keep in mind who is making these pieces. A quick internet search will show that many popular clothing chains are considered 'fast fashion'. What does this mean exactly? The people behind the sewing machines are likely not making living wages, they are working overtime, and in terrible conditions. Not to mention the manufacturers' impact on the environment. It is very important to do some research before picking up the next new garment.
There are several options for shopping ethically though, and they aren't all expensive. There are plenty of ethical clothing companies who care about the people making the clothes and their impact on the environment. Now some of these can get a bit pricey, so a cheaper alternative is thrifting. I love thrifting, in person or online. Thrift shops are everywhere, so all you have to do is look! However, if you like to shop from home, there are plenty of thrifting websites as well. Below I've listed a few new clothing sites and online thrift stores. New Clothing Thrift Sites Next time you are in need of some new clothing, consider where it is coming from and think about thrifting. Thrifted items may not be brand new, but they can be new to you! I hope this post was at least a little helpful for those looking to shop with more conscience. Happy shopping!
Last night I watched the long awaited Harry Potter "spinoff". Like many avid fans of the wizarding world I was extremely excited to return to that familiar place, however I was a bit nervous that it wouldn't live up to my expectations. I am happy to report that I had absolutely nothing to worry about! It was everything I wanted and more; though we don't have the familiar faces or plot line, the same magical feel is still there. Set in 1920s New York we get a glimpse at the American wizarding world, an aspect that we haven't seen before. The music, while not exactly the same as in the Harry Potter series, had the same feel and helped me tie this current film to the previous ones without feeling forced.
A new installment in my novelty bag series, and today its fries! French fries (or chips depending on your location) are my absolute favorite salty food. It only seemed right to add them to my novelty bag collection! The pattern is available below the video and under the 'Free Patterns' tab. Enjoy!
