This time of year, we have fashion weeks coming in going in every big city. Exciting new styles for the upcoming seasons can be fun to try, but it is important to keep in mind who is making these pieces. A quick internet search will show that many popular clothing chains are considered 'fast fashion'. What does this mean exactly? The people behind the sewing machines are likely not making living wages, they are working overtime, and in terrible conditions. Not to mention the manufacturers' impact on the environment. It is very important to do some research before picking up the next new garment.
There are several options for shopping ethically though, and they aren't all expensive. There are plenty of ethical clothing companies who care about the people making the clothes and their impact on the environment. Now some of these can get a bit pricey, so a cheaper alternative is thrifting. I love thrifting, in person or online. Thrift shops are everywhere, so all you have to do is look! However, if you like to shop from home, there are plenty of thrifting websites as well. Below I've listed a few new clothing sites and online thrift stores. New Clothing Thrift Sites Next time you are in need of some new clothing, consider where it is coming from and think about thrifting. Thrifted items may not be brand new, but they can be new to you! I hope this post was at least a little helpful for those looking to shop with more conscience. Happy shopping!
